Jesus, you are close to me, your Spirit’s in my heart
But if you lived on earth today, like you did at the start…

Would we walk arm in arm along-the way friends sometimes do?
Would you look in my eyes and say, “I know; I’ve been there too”?

Would you agree with choices made, when I forgot to pray-
Ignoring your divine advice to let you lead the way?

Would you hold my face gently within your dear, scarred hands
While my cares slipped forever from life’s harsh worldly demands?

Would your eyes hold a twinkle, could my humor make you smile?
Would you sit down beside me just to visit for a while?

Would you write a song for me, and place it in my heart?
If you lived here on earth, my Lord, as you did at the start
