Who Is Your Master? Really!

Within roughly a month the federal tax deadline will be a reality for American taxpayers. Hardly an hour goes by that tax preparers on radio and television do not fail to remind us to pay Caesar. They tell us about how to figure deductions, what can be written off and how their agency protects the taxpayer from high taxation and will get you a bigger refund. Tax packages, tax lawyers and accountants earn considerable fees for showing people how to find good tax shelters.

in spite of what some may believe and feel about tax avoidance, there is nothing wrong with recognizing, knowing and utilizing tax law to minimize their taxes. That said, some people seem to spend a great deal of their time or hiring financial planners to look for havens, loopholes and shelters for their wealth. in a recent economic report, it was said that more than half of all Americans have money invested in some form of investment with the prospect that they will get rich if they wait long enough or get into a get rich scheme for instant or quick wealth. How may of these people give thought to their eternal souls? How many of them are investing their lives for the hereafter?

Jesus had a distressing statement for people whose preoccupation and existence are totally invested in material wealth. According to Jesus’ parable, the man in His story property was so fruitful and prosperous that he built more and bigger barns to hold his grain. “You fool!” Christ responded, “This night your soul will be required of you.” The point Jesus was making in His discourse has absolutely nothing to do with the evils of money, having money, being wealthy or having possessions as some people would have believe. Rather, Jesus is concerned with one’s priorities. When people put “things” ahead of Him and worship their wealth, then we have chosen the wrong master to find our salvation. Look around you today and you will see those who have chosen who or what as their master.
