The God Prospective

In thinking about the topic of favoritism this week I have wondered to myself, “Does God have favorite’s and if so who are they?”
I decided to look at bible figures to see what determines the title “God’s Favorite”.
The first person that came to mind was Mary. Surely she was considered highly favored by god. Young, single, unmarried and pregnant. Not an exactly somewhere we would like to be, and yet apparently favored by God to have his only son.
Next came David. Young, strong, chosen by God to lead his people and be their king. Alone, on the run, hiding in caves, his very life in threat, his son in rebellion against him.
Yet again not the place we would expect someone favored by god. Next came Joseph, not only was he his father’s favorite, but also gifted with dreams and interpretations of them.
Hated by his brother’s, sold into slavery, slandered, imprisoned for many years.
Seems to be a definite pattern emerging here. Moses flashes into focus, adopted son of the king of Egypt with great wealth and power. Close to death in the desert, living for many years there, leading a stubborn rebellious people to a promised land he never enters. The list goes on. Lot, Abraham, Noah, Samson, Joshua, Solomon, Elijah.
Not one of these could be said to have had a trouble free life.
So to be counted as one of God’s favorites doesn’t depend on blessings, protection, worldly wealth, station in life or looks.
God looks at the heart of the person.
Thats the god perseptive......
