One night recently, our neighborhood experienced the greatest flash flooding of many years. You see our road is stuck right in the middle of a horseshoe shaped river that crosses it at two different points not very far from each other. The river had risen to flood our section of the road from both ends! As the night progressed, we watched the waters rise into our neighbors’ yards until their houses became islands. We also noticed that the neighbors right across the street were about to trade their cars for newly christened ships that would float away! This was something that our neighbors didn’t seem to be aware of. I rushed across the street with my flashlight and pounded on their door; the man of the house groggily answered it. My pounding had awakened him from a peaceful slumber. Here our neighbors had gone to bed without even knowing about the flooding, had we not warned them, they would have slept right through the flood and had extensive damage done to at least one of their vehicles. I spent much of the rest of the night running up and down our road, helping where I could, and making sure that our neighbors were safe.

You know, it is amazing how much we are willing to go out of our way to band together and help each other when property and lives are threatened by natural disaster. When fire, or wind, or water lay siege to the doors of those around us, we do not hesitate to run over and urgently cajole them to safety. Yet, we are willing to ignore the fact that the flash floods of hell’s eternal lake of fire are laying siege to the souls of those around us with resolute urgency. Millions of people around us are asleep in their own delusions and remain totally unaware of the imminent danger that lies just inches from their doorstep. By not telling them, we are committing a heinous crime! We are engaged in the greatest search and rescue operation of all time, but we are not just commissioned to save peoples’ lives and property; we have been called to rescue their eternal souls! Our message has greater urgency, and priority than any other warning of war, famine, or destruction ever could have! We must go out, shine our lights in the darkness, and use the power of God to wake people from their deadly slumber, lest we be too late!
