Written 2-25-05

In this carcass no good thing dwells,
Not even reliable as the sin within me;
My ego’s like leaven that faithfully swells,
My hope lies in that which hung on the tree.

Don’t count on me to set you aright,
I wouldn’t follow even my own plans;
From my depths I can’t send you to height,
I’d have to leave you in my God’s hands.

I’m not the one that you should trust,
My plans will die, with my passing breath;
My aspirations and dreams will come to rust,
My hope lies in Him who conquered death.

I’ve joined Paul’s club, called “Chief of Sinners,”
Gaining wisdom in becoming a fool;
I hear that’s where one’s a winner,
To rest within our Father’s Jewel.

So if I’m one to need my Christ,
Why should you look to me?
I’m stricken with spiritual lice,
Look to Jesus to set you free!

I’m not the one that you should trust,
