Written 2-11-05

To stand against kings wicked and twisted,
Heart right with God, where prayers are heard;
Strengthened by Him; Spirit-assisted,
A mouthpiece for Him, proclaiming the word.

But he also was much like us,
Even as he called fire from heaven;
God knew his frame, being made from the dust,
His heart also tainted by sin’s wicked leaven.

With victory behind, against false seers,
He ran from Jezebel, upon her threat;
Shaken by a sinner, a message of leers,
God quietly sought him, in a desert they met.

But that’s like the Lord, to call those so weak,
To rest in His strength, depend on Him solely;
The only requirement, Him they should seek,
Remembering how His mercy’s so holy.

By grace the Lord called him, apart from death,
Ordaining Elisha, to take up the mission,
With a fiery chariot, taken in His breath,
Faithfully finishing his Lord’s commission.

He stood again, in the home of his fathers,
Ages later, he returned to Israel;
With Moses, he talked with his holiest Brother,
About His coming death, His Father’s last deal.

Make me like that prophet Elijah,
Boldly calling for rain to cease;
His heart won by God, with heavenly fire,
Seeking to call all men to peace.
