If it's true that we are here to help others, then what are the others
here for?

It appears to me that many Christians seem reluctant to think, that
is, to think for themselves. If E-Cheer accomplishes nothing else, I
hope it stirs Christians to the importance of thoroughly thinking
about the basics of their faith.

It seems that many are content to simply have Charles Stanley or
some other TV preacher do their thinking for them. Whatever the
TV preacher says, that's what they believe because they assume it
just has to be the truth. Does it? How do you know it is the truth
unless you search the Scriptures for yourself?

If you use the KJV, you will assume that "search," as used in John
5:39, is a command, but in most versions it is a statement of why
you search the Scriptures -- it is to discover Jesus Christ, and that's
the most important reason for searching the Scriptures. In 2 Tim.
2:15 (nlt) we have an oft quoted verse -- "Work hard so God can
approve you. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be
ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth." That
requires that we think!

In no way am I denegrating the very important role of a pastor in
helping you to understand what God is telling us in Scripture, but
you'll notice I said "help" -- that doesn't mean a pastor has to do all
the thinking for us. Each of us has the responsibility to determine
what God is telling us. The onus falls on us! THINK
