Ezekiel 37: Israel’s ‘Two Sticks Made One’ Kingdom

Since history tends to repeat itself – especially Israeli history – it should come as no surprise that many prophecies in Scripture are blended in nature. With Israel’s continual cycle of rebellion against God and His Word, repentance toward God, and God’s faithfulness in saving Israel – coupled with Israel’s two historical dispersions and their end-time exile in the Great Tribulation – these prophecies often contain elements that can be blended and applied with both near to the prophet and prophetic future end-time fulfillments in view. Ezekiel 37:1-28 is no exception.

For an exhaustive examination of Ezekiel 37, we have broken down the chapter into two separate study articles:

As is our custom, we will be studying Ezekiel 37:15-28 verse-by-verse, offering corroborating Scriptures and commentary that will be illustrated by our comprehension of eschatology, in an effort to illuminate the passages for a vividly expounded clarity and an enhanced understanding of what God, through the prophet, is conveying to the reader prophetically.

Underlined Scripture passages are my own emphasis.

Israel’s ‘Two Sticks Made One’ Kingdom

Ezekiel’s ‘Two Sicks Made One’ prophecy is about as overt as one can expect from their prophetic studies of Scripture. However, this prophetic section also contains some very intriguing treasures for the Bible student to reflect upon if they are but searching judiciously and intently, especially - and as we shall see - when one has a substantial conceptual understanding of the Word of God!

“The word of the Lord came again unto me, saying, Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim and for all the house of Israel his companions: And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.” – Ezekiel 37:15-17

The Hebrew for “his companions” is חֲבֵרָי / ו “ḥăḇērāyv” from 2270 חָבֵר “ḥāḇēr,” meaning, in adjective form, knit together as one man, united, and, in noun form as in our text, associates, fellows, worshipers, companions.

Observe that Ezekiel was to write on the one stick, “For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions,” and on the other stick Ezekiel was to write, “For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim and for all the house of Israel his companions.” Joseph/Ephraim represented the northern kingdom of Israel, which was already in exile from the Assyrian conquest, while Judah represented the southern kingdom of Judah, the house of David, also in exile from the Babylonian conquest. Yet each stick contained a similar phrase, “for the children of Israel his companions” for Judah, and “for all the house of Israel his companions” for Joseph/Ephraim.

Hence, both brief statements combined reflect a divine sovereign uniting of the entire “house (household/family) and children of Israel (from all 12 tribes) his companions (associates, fellows, worshipers, companions),” the beloved chosen people of God!

“And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying, Wilt thou not shew us what thou meanest by these? Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.” – Ezekiel 37:18-19

Israel will once again be united as one nation under the God of Israel.

Some may say that this has been occurring since 1948, but while many of the tribes are coming back to the Promised Land in Aliyah, not all are there and millions are still throughout the world. Additionally, all that have and will come back to the Promised Land, even going into the first half of the Tribulation, will be exiled, if they are fortunate enough to escape, from Israel at the Abomination of Desolation.

Therefore, this prophecy will obviously not be fulfilled until Messiah Himself has them gathered out of all the world subsequent to His Second Coming when He will send His mighty angels to fetch His beloved chosen people back to the Promised Land one last time.

“And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes. And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land: And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all.” – Ezekiel 37:20-22

We see an initial allusion to this prophecy with Israel coming into her land today. However, the ultimate fulfillment of this prophecy will come when Israel will be exiled from the Promised Land one last time following the Abomination of Desolation at the midway point of the Tribulation, then the Lord will have His holy angels gather His elect “from among the heathen” following His Second Coming at the end of the Tribulation.

Just as Moses had prophesied of Israel…

“That then the Lord thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the Lord thy God hath scattered thee. If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will the Lord thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee: And the Lord thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers.” –Deuteronomy 30:3-5

So, too, did Messiah prophesy the same concerning His Second Coming and the gathering of Israel one last time…

“And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” – Matthew 24:30-31

“And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.” – Mark 13:26-27

That “one king” in our text is most likely referencing King Jesus; yet, as we shall examine momentarily, there is another person up for consideration in this distinguished role.

The 12 tribes of Israel will one day be a united nation once again, coming together in complete solidarity, with absolutely no outcasts dispersed throughout the world ever again, as promised and decreed by divine edict.

“Neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions: but I will save them out of all their dwellingplaces, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God.” – Ezekiel 37:23

Idols come in many varying forms, just as we observed in our study Idols, Past, Present, and Future. All idols – from the graven images in Israel’s ancient past to the idols of self, trust in man, covetousness, atheism, evolutionary humanism, modern paganism, and everything in between today – will be purged from the minds and hearts of the house of Israel at the end of the Tribulation and going into the subsequent Messianic Kingdom following Messiah’s Second Coming.

“At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the Lord; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the Lord, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.

“In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.” – Jeremiah 3:17-18

When this wonderful occasion occurs, following the Second Coming of Messiah, God will remember the house of Israel’s sins no more.

“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” – Isaiah 1:18

“The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

“For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.” – Psalm 103:8-12

“Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.” – Hebrews 10:15-17

King David and God’s New Covenant with Israel in the Kingdom of Messiah

“And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them.” – Ezekiel 37:24

As a secondary application, the Lord Jesus Christ is intrinsically linked to King David in the ancestral sense, beginning with Gabriel’s announcement to Mary and concluding with Messiah’s declaration of Himself.

“And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.” – Luke 1:31-33

“I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.” – Revelation 22:16

However, our passage and three other prophetic passages cited below, clearly declare that King “David [God’s] servant shall be king [also called ‘Prince’ in verse 25] over” the nation of Israel in the Messianic Kingdom.

King David is also called Israel’s shepherd and prince earlier in Ezekiel.

“And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. And I the Lord [Yeshua] will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I the Lord have spoken it.” – Ezekiel 34:23-24

God, through Jeremiah, also noted King David’s role in the Messianic Kingdom.

“But they [Israel and Judah untied as one again] shall serve the Lord their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.” – Jeremiah 30:9

Truly, God will “raise up” King David in the resurrection of the Old Testament Saints (probably including others) to rule over Israel under the Leadership and Kingship of Messiah Yeshua Himself.

And God, through Hosea, prophesied the same.

“Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the Lord their God, and David their king; and shall fear the Lord and his goodness in the latter days.” – Hosea 3:5

Additionally, Jesus promised that His disciples would also rule and reign over the twelve tribes of Israel.

“And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.” – Matthew 19:28

Hypothesis Regarding the 12 Disciples Judging the 12 Tribes of Israel

A fascinating thought occurred to me recently regarding this promise of Yeshua to His disciples. It is very probable, though not provable through the Scriptures, that each disciple Jesus chose was from a different tribe representing the twelve tribes. After all, He spent much time in prayer to His Father to select just the right individuals for these very important positions.

“And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles; Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew, Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes, And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.” – Luke 6:12-16

At that time in history, some of the families of each tribe from the northern kingdom of Israel were represented in the nation of Judah, as those families migrated to Judah from Israel during Israel’s apostasy and rebellion up to the conquest and dispersion of the northern kingdom in approximately 722 B.C. by the Assyrians. Therefore, those families from each tribe in the northern kingdom of Israel who had migrated to Judah would also be accounted as those who would survive the onslaught by the Babylonians against Judah and Jerusalem with the poorest of the land granted the right to stay in the Promised Land and the rest exiled in approximately 587 B.C. They would also be among those who would come back into the land at the decree of Cyrus.

“So all Israel were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, who were carried away to Babylon for their transgression. Now the first inhabitants that dwelt in their possessions in their cities were, the Israelites, the priests, Levites, and the Nethinims. And in Jerusalem dwelt of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin, and of the children of Ephraim, and Manasseh…” – 1 Chronicles 9:1-3

Though all of the twelve tribes are not mentioned in this record, there is no reason to believe that all twelve tribes were not represented in Israel’s return to the Promised Land following the Babylonian captivity, as many of the families that returned may not have had proper documentation of their heritage – probably destroyed in the Babylonian destruction – though God knows who each of His chosen people are and of what tribe they came from!

The obvious issue with this supposition is that within the twelve disciples there are at least two sets of brothers – Peter and Andrew, and James and John. There are two possibilities with our theory regarding the brothers: 1. The brothers may have had different fathers or mothers that came from two different tribes. 2. Because the twelve tribes were represented in the nation of Judah, the brothers may have been of mixed tribal ancestry. In both cases, each brother could represent a different tribe to rule and reign over. 

Moreover, since Judas Iscariot would be a traitor and would commit suicide, one had to fill Judas’ position and this was accomplished soon after the ascension of Christ as recorded for us in the book of Acts.

“And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

“And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,) Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus. For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry…

“… For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take. Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

“And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

“And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.” – Acts 1:13-17, 20-26

Therefore, if our theory is correct (and obviously we are not dogmatic on this in making a supposition based on Christ’s Words that the 12 Disciples would judge the 12 Tribes of Israel), it would be reasonable to suspect that, when the lot fell to Matthias, he may very well have come from the same tribe as Judas Iscariot.

Returning to King Yeshua and King David in the Messianic Kingdom

As we noted above, David is called both King and Prince within Messianic Kingdom prophecies. Surely, King David could never have the title “King” taken from him as the second king of Israel who remained faithful to his God throughout his whole life. However, King David’s position in the Messianic Kingdom is far more akin to that of the Prince in Israel (Ezekiel 46:8-12, 48:22, et al.), rather than that of the King, as the King of kings and Lord of lords, Messiah Yeshua, will be in the midst of His people, Israel, and will rule and reign forever.

“But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.” – Micah 5:2

Again, the angel Gabriel confirmed the message from God to Micah concerning the Messiah and His birth in Bethlehem Ephratah when he came with the divine message of Christ’s incarnation to the virgin Mary…

“He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.” – Luke 1:32-33

In Messiah’s Kingdom, Israel will “walk in [God’s] judgments, and observe [His] statutes, and do them” as Messiah Yeshua shall be Israel’s One true “Shepherd” who leads and guides them and He shall rule not only the Kingdom of Israel but over the entire Earth with a rod of iron from Jerusalem!

“And she [Israel/Mary] brought forth a man child [Christ Jesus], who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron…” – Revelation 12:5

The Lord King Jesus was prophesied by King David himself that Messiah was his Lord and Shepherd.

“The Lord is my shepherd…” – Psalm 23:1

And the Lord Jesus Christ referred to Himself as The Good Shepherd.

“I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep…

“I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.” – John 10:11, 14-16

King Messiah Yeshua will have all authority over Earth as He rules from Jerusalem in His Kingdom!

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.” – Isaiah 9:6-7

“I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed…

“And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.” – Daniel 7:13-14, 27

“And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children's children for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince for ever.” – Ezekiel 37:25

The Messianic Kingdom will be the only time in history when Israel, generation after generation, will dwell in the Promised land “for ever.”

“They [Israel] shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with them.” – Isaiah 65:23

For a personal study on King David’s role in Jerusalem during the Messianic Kingdom as Israel’s “Prince,” please read Ezekiel chapters 44 through 46.

“Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore. My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And the heathen shall know that I the Lord do sanctify Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore.” – Ezekiel 37:26-28

Israel has never had “a covenant of peace” that is “an everlasting covenant” with the Lord God, as time and time again, just as we see today, Israel as a nation has been in a constant flux of rebellion against their Creator and Lord. At this glorious time, however, rebellion will never come into the minds of the children of Israel ever again, when God “will be their God, and they shall be [His] people…” as His “sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore!”

One can postulate that, symbolically, God’s “My sanctuary” would refer to the Millennial Temple in the Messianic Kingdom - which carries the connotation that Messiah Yeshua will erect the Temple Himself - and God’s “My tabernacle” would equate to Yeshua Himself dwelling with His people in His glorious resurrected body in the Messianic Kingdom as He once dwelt among His people in His flesh and blood body at His First Advent (John 1:14); the “tabernacle” representing both aspects of Jesus Christ’s human incarnation and His resurrected glorified eternal body.

The two taken together, perhaps, might be understood as, “I… will set My Sanctuary [the Son’s Millennial Temple] in the midst of them [united Israel] for evermore. My Tabernacle [the Son in His resurrected glorified eternal body] also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”

Then will Zechariah’s wonderful promise to pour out “the Spirit of grace and of supplications” - represented first by those Israelites from Judah and Jerusalem that had been exiled to the wilderness mountains of Petra, es Sela, and Mt. Seir at the midway point of the Tribulation, as they return to the Promised Land with the King of Israel leading the way as He destroys His enemies at His Second Coming – will finally find fulfillment.

“And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.” – Zechariah 12:10

The rest of the house of Israel, dispersed throughout the world, will also receive this same unique “Spirit of grace and of supplications” at the end of the Tribulation with their Messiah’s Second Coming when they return to the Promised Land by the holy angels, decreed by their Lord and Savior (Matthew 24:31, Mark 13:27).

First, Messiah will gather them…

“And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase.

“And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them [the 12 Disciples judging the 12 Tribes of Israel]: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the LORD.

“Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.

“In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

“Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, The LORD liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt; But, The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.” – Jeremiah 23:3-8

Then the Lord will bless them uniquely with His Spirit…

“Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen: Thus saith the Lord that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.

“For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.

“One shall say, I am the Lord's; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the Lord, and surname himself by the name of Israel.” – Isaiah 44:1-5

The Lord Jesus Christ will indeed rule and reign from Jerusalem forever after He has His chosen people returned to their Promised Land…

“In that day, saith the LORD, will I assemble her that halteth, and I will gather her that is driven out, and her that I have afflicted; And I will make her that halted a remnant, and her that was cast far off a strong nation: and the LORD shall reign over them in mount Zion from henceforth, even for ever.

“And thou, O tower of the flock, the strong hold of the daughter of Zion, unto thee shall it come, even the first dominion; the kingdom shall come to the daughter of Jerusalem.” – Micah 4:6-8

Ruling from Zion, Messiah, the eternal Son of God, will inherit not only Israel but all of the nations for His possession, ruling the entire world in peace, glory, justice, and strength as only the Creator should…

“Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

“I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

“Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.” – Psalm 2:6-8

Messiah Yeshua Tabernacling with His People in the Eternal Kingdom

In the Eternal Kingdom, God will also “tabernacle” with His people throughout the ages to come.

“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

“And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

“And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.” – Revelation 21:1-3

With our above symbolic supposition in mind - and the understanding that the triune Godhead is One God and that the Father who is Spirit (John 4:24, 2 Corinthians 3:17) and the Holy Spirit are both unseen, and that the Son physically manifests the Father and the Spirit to the creation (John 14:8-9) - the underlined passage could be translated and understood as, “Behold, the Messiah Yeshua of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God.” Thus, through the resurrected body of Messiah Yeshua in the Eternal Kingdom, the entire Godhead will continue to be One, manifested within our Creator, Lord, Savior, Redeemer, and King.

In the Holy Jerusalem, Israel will be highlighted along with the church, the bride of Christ. The 12 Tribes of Israel, as gates to the nations, provided for us the law, the Scriptures, and the Messiah Himself, and the 12 Apostles who were the foundations of the church, will be the foundations of the eternal Holy City of God.

“And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.

“And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.” – Revelation 21:10-14

“And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

“And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

“And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.” – Revelation 21:22-26

Once again, we observe that the triune Godhead is found in the Lamb, “for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it [the New Jerusalem],” and “the glory of God did lighten it [the New Jerusalem], and the Lamb is the light thereof.”

“And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:

“And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.” – Revelation 22:1-5

Again we see the Godhead embodied in the Son of God, as “the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it [the New Jerusalem]” – not two thrones, but one throne “of God and of the Lamb” - and His servants, “they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.”

“I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

“And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” – Revelation 22:16-17

What an awesome God we serve; that the Father is always calling individuals in every generation by His Holy Spirit to come by His amazing grace through faith in His only begotten and beloved Son, Messiah Yeshua, Jesus Christ, for salvation through Him, as He desires to commune with His creatures that He Himself created for His glory and companionship in the blessed Eternal Kingdom for evermore!

May we all keep Answering the Call of The Great Commission, and giving an answer to every man and woman who so desperately needs Jesus and asks us, “Why Am I Here and What Is It All About?”
