Trouble to Good
Achan was a man who sinned very badly, disobeying the commandments of God that the prophet Joshua had clearly declared.God commanded the faithful Israelites to punish Achan and his family. So they were all killed, burnt, and buried under a huge heap of stones.
The valley became known as the Valley of Achor, the Valley of Trouble.
See Joshua, chapter 7.
Many years later, the prophet Hosea used that name to present us with a beautiful truth.
I will give her her vineyards from there, and the Valley of Achor as a Door of Hope.”
Hosea 2:15
That is very much in harmony with the well-known verse: “We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
