"Everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.” (1 John 5:4 NIV)

Faith in God is key to overcoming the world before it can overcome us, which drives us to answer the question, “How do we nurture our faith so it can grow strong in our heart and life?” Recently I’ve begun seeing it as faithfully taking time to relax and soak in the things of God. It happens when we "SPA": Study His Word, then Practice and Act on what we’re discovering so faith and trust in Him can become an ever-growing, natural part of our thoughts, feelings and day-to-day life.

The Bible tells us to, “Study and do your best to present yourself to God approved, a workman [tested by trial] who has no reason to be ashamed, accurately handling and skillfully teaching the word of truth.” (Timothy 2:15 AMP)

As we study, we tentatively Practice what we’ve been learning about faith in God to develop it, much like we do while learning a new skill so it becomes a natural part of our life. I like the way an online ministry put it. “It is through practice that we develop our faith, mold our character, and strengthen our relationship with God. Just like any skill in life, living out our faith requires effort and dedication.”*

As we practice, we’re also taking deliberate steps to Act on what we’ve been studying and practicing, which is also developing and strengthening our faith and trust in God.

Study. Practice. Act. They all work together to build and strengthen our faith—the kind of faith that’s unshakable in the face of temptations and confusion, chaos, troubles and hardships that too often shake the world around us.
