The Drama At The Cross

The redemptive work of Christ on the cross was a classic masterpiece drama, written, directed and produced by God himself. Before Adam and Eve were created, and before they sinned in the garden, and were kicked out of the garden of Eden, God already had a master plan to send Christ to redeem mankind from Sin after their fall. As it is written, in Revelation 13:8 and 1 Peter 1:19-20 that Jesus is the lamb that was slain from the beginning of the world and that his coming to die as a lamb was foreordained before the world began. It is interesting to note that everything that happened before the cross, at the cross and after the cross were part of the drama written by God. The All-knowing God knew that Adam and Eve will sin and that Christ will come as the last Adam and life-giver to save mankind.

The redemptive plan was a hidden mystery, that was kept hidden and secret. If the devil had known, he and his princes wouldn’t have crucified Christ. As it is written in 1 Corinthians 2:7-8, “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. Christ came into the earthly scene through Joseph from the tribe of Judah, through the immaculate conception of Mary. Though he was the son of God, for 33 years, He was human with human blood flowing in his blood stream. Yet he didn’t sin. He had human weakness and even didn’t want to die but He was always resilient, quick to adjust to say, Not his will, but God the Father’s will be done (Luke 22:42). Pilate found him innocent, completely innocent and wanted to free him. But had to release him to his people to be killed due to their demand (Matthew 27:24-25). The devil and his princes must have been happy. Not knowing it was all part of God’s redemptive drama to save mankind from Sin. As it is written in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”. Jesus came, laid down his life (1 John 3:16), offered himself as a lamb and eternal sacrifice for sin and entered the most holy place once and for all, to present his own blood as an atonement for sin (Hebrew 9:11-12). It was a mystery. Christ had to die, to save mankind and open the door for more sons to come to God (John 12:23-24; Hebrews 2:10). On that day, that He died. Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “It is Finished”. The veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split (Matthew 7:50-51). Announcing the completion of his redemptive work. Announcing that the way to God has now being open for all mankind. He died, went to hades and resurrected on the third day. Ascended into Heaven and sat at the right hand of God the Father. And He is alive forevermore. Halleluyah. Amen.

10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings – Hebrews 2:10

When Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, He yielded up His spirit. Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split – Matthew 7:50-51

And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit - 1 Corinthians 15:45

Father God, I thank you for the redemptive work of Christ. Thank you for the drama at the cross and all that Jesus did for me. Thank you for the gift of eternal life, the gift of healing and redemption and the complete redemption package. I pray with thanksgiving in Jesus name.
