There have been more than a few articles written in print and in social media about the apparent interest by Gen Z in heading back to the church house. There have also been public proclamations about Gen Z ‘discovering’ Jesus. SM emojis with quaint displays of how Gen Z ‘loves’ Jesus have been crisscrossing the Internet at lightning speed, and with breathless commentaries about how Jesus has become cool among this generation.
Well, I hate to be a ‘Darren Downer’ on the celebration, but as a Christian myself, as well as a retired Gospel Minister, my central question to my young friends is the following: “Have you discovered the BIBLICAL Jesus?” Gen Z—from whom are you getting your information? Let me unpack a few things about Jesus that many are not aware, including where you may find a true portrait of the Man from Galilee.
To begin. It has been said that Gen Z is a generation that is dedicated to truth. However, I ask is it BIBLICAL truth about Jesus? According to my KJV Bible (the Authorized Version as it is better known), in the New Testament, those who follow Jesus wound up being persecuted, hounded, hunted, and martyred (this means murdered by those who did not like what they lived nor what they were preaching about Jesus). A suggestion: get a copy of Foxes Book of Martyrs to gain a TRUE understanding as to what happened to REAL Christians—followers of Jesus Christ—who made public stands for their faith in Him throughout the centuries.
If your view of Jesus brings you long-term applause and friendly faces from your social media accounts, your family, and your friends, are you SURE that you have the right Savior? The Scriptures hold that Jesus did not come to bring peace, but division. Three family members against two; two family members against three. In short, if you are walking in the way and doctrine of the biblical Jesus, you will NOT have that many in the way of friends—including those who may call themselves believers.
But wait, there’s more!
The Biblical Jesus IS the Word of God (John 1:1 KJV). Thus, you have to live the way He says that you are to live, based upon what He says in the Scriptures AND what His apostles taught throughout the remainder of the New Testament. In fact, Gen Z, if YOUR Jesus does NOT believe in standing up for the truth; if YOUR Jesus is NOT the one of the Beatitudes; if YOUR Jesus did not clean out the Moneychangers from the Temple; and IF your Jesus does NOT stand for holiness, judgment, and taking on the ‘religious establishment’ based upon the Scriptures, do you REALLY know or have Jesus Christ as your Savior? Or do you merely wear the T-Shirt and cling to the emojis to be ‘with it’?
No, my young friends. The Jesus I know and have served these many years still continues to amaze me, build me, grow me, and undergird me. One cannot claim the name of Christian without knowing the price He paid to produce Eternal Life, nor can one claim to JESUS without counting the cost of following Him.
Again, to know Jesus means that you have the RIGHT bible from which to learn about Him, that being the KJV. ANY other version than the KJV won’t give you a true picture of Him, nor a true picture of what is to come in these last days. The RSV, the NIV, the NASB, the Living Bible, the NKJV, and a host of Study Bibles by prominent pastors MISS by a MILE the real Jesus. My KJV Bible says that Jesus was disrespected by many of his brothers and all of his sisters. In short, they turned their backs on him, not believing that He was the Messiah. The Pharisees and the rest of the Sanhedrin Council—at every opportunity—tried to trick him, trap him, and kill him. They called him an illegitimate child. The Roman authorities viewed Him as a criminal. The Roman Soldiers beat him into hamburger—then put him on a Cross in between two thieves. He died. Was buried in a borrowed tomb, was resurrected from the dead on the third day by the power of God and ascended up to heaven. Those who believe on Him WILL be saved and are regarded as Brand new—meaning that Jesus re-writes you down to your DNA (II Corinthians 5:17 KJV).
Does YOUR Jesus fill this resume? Better yet, are you a Berean—one who runs everything that they hear about doctrine through the Scriptures to see if what you hear is so? IF you want to become one, you have to know the Biblical Jesus—the True Jesus. The Jesus that will be coming back at any time, first to meet with his believers in the air at the Rapture, and then—after seven years—to judge the quick and the dead.
Is this biblical enough for you, Gen Z?
Love is a wonderful thing. The love chapter of the Scriptures is I Corinthians 13. Check it out to see IF you are ready to put away childish things and meet the REAL Jesus of the KJV Bible.
Your life will truly be changed for now, and forever.
Anyone can post emojis about Jesus, put a bumper sticker on their car, or slap a sticker on their laptop. However, are you WILLING to be changed by the doctrine (truths) of Jesus? THIS is where the rubber means the road. Are you truly born again, or are you just providing lip service to please the masses? Your eternal destiny rests in the balance.
