#3 in “Blessing for Senior Saints” series.

“And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.  (Genesis 2:18 KJV). “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD. (Proverbs 18:22). Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.  Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)

To lose your life companion after 53 years is a devastating event.  In spite of knowing she was a believer, having completed her years of physical suffering, and being safely with the Lord, I am suddenly alone.  Yes, the children are nearby, but when you have enjoyed a happy, good marriage, nothing can replace the companionship of the one you have loved so dearly.

After about three years of loneliness, I asked the Lord for my second life partner.  I told the Lord I wanted the widow of a Baptist pastor since I had been in the ministry as a Baptist pastor.  A month after that prayer, the  Lord brought this lady into my life.  She had also been married for over 50 years.  Three months later, we were married.  And God has blessed us with sweet companionship over the past four years.  She reminds me that she is the answer to my prayers - - and she is.

It is not my contention that every senior widow or widower should remarry.  But if God directs that way, do not be afraid.  Trust God and go forward.  God may reward you with many years of blessed companionship and fruitful service in the years ahead.
