Singles' Corner: Marriage Is Not A Fairy Tale

How often have we dreamed of that day when we'll meet our Prince Charming and he'll sweep us off our feet? I've been guilty of this myself, but from observing my parents' and aunt's marriages, it is the total opposite. It's easy to think that marriage will always be rosy and that there'll never be any problems. Unfortunately, that's the idea some women have of marriage. Here's some points to consider regarding this:

1. There will be storms in a marriage. My parents have argued over things such as money problems, responsibilities, the children and everything else. I find it difficult to believe people who say that they never had any problems in their marriages.

2. During courtship, we often get caught up in the moment and we think this man is the right one for us. I have a friend who, after only dating him for a little over a year, talked about marrying him because he was one of the few men who was nice to her. However, they're no longer together. She said that she found out that he was selfish and plays games. Outward appearances can fool you.

As singles, we shouldn't feel bad, left out or weird for not having a partner. This leads to desperation and we'll lower our standards just to have somebody in our lives.

Don't let your friends impose their choices on you. They can give advice about who would be right for you but in the end the choice is yours.

With these points in mind, we can think of marriage as just another way to show God's love to others, not a way to cure our loneliness.

You have such wonderful insight on moral relationships. I would love to see what you would write if you took a little more time to fully research and outline a longer, more professional article. You are doing a great job and if you keep at it you will be greatly rewarded! -Patrick
