The Weeds Get High Where There Is No Fruitful Ground
“And as he was sowing, some seed fell along the path, where it was trampled, and the birds of the air devoured it.” Luke 8:5 NIV
“You’ll find them out there on the hard road.” .. James Robinson*
If you have ever gardened, you soon realise that vegetables fail quickly without proper care, while weeds seem to thrive even through the worst of conditions.
The same can be said today of all of the barren minds upon which the beautiful words of the Gospel shed off of them like water from a duck. And most intellectuals seem to shed it the best:
“There is no God. No one created the Universe, and no one directs our fate.” .. Steven Hawking
The soils of our current human condition have fallen further into unfruitfulness, yielding very little. Without the proper raising of children by responsible Christian parents, it continues to erode more with every storm, wind, and burning sun that their peers can muster to turn them to science and away from Christ.
Yet every dark cloud has a silver lining that can spark at least one thought that there must be a God who loves us and can open a closed mind to the Gospel and to Jesus.
“The message I preach hasn’t changed. Circumstances have changed. Problems have changed, but deep inside man has not changed, and the Gospel hasn’t changed.” .. Billie Graham
They say you cannot truly go home again after you have left it for the world. That is correct for the most part from a worldly view, but the Holy Spirit continues to build an army for Christ every day, and there you truly are home to stay.
So, never give up on minds closed to the Gospel and try to keep the weeds along the pathway well hoed. Just strive to break up the dry crust of worldly social influence with love and dedication, so that the seeds of the Gospel can take root in young minds.
“Weeds get high where corn don’t grow.” .. Bart Herbison of Nashville Songwriters Association International - “I can’t say he didn’t warn me, this city life is a hard row to hoe.” BH
*“You will never find those who need Christ in this fine church or out there in the parking lot filled with your fine cars and armed guards, you will find them out there on the hard road and gutters, and if you can't lower your eyes to find them, you will never see them!” ... A very young and powerful James Robinson, a guest speaker at Liberty University, in front of Jerry Falwell, who was rather taken aback by these comments. Robinson was a wonderful sight to behold that hour, filled with spirit and a fire in his heart.
Post Script: If it had not been for the fine woman he married, James Robinson probably would have fallen victim to one of the many church women who flung themselves at him. A good woman is a blessing and a lifeline to one called of God; otherwise, James would have probably met the same disgraceful end that so many televangelists have.
