The metamorphosis
wasn't like Clark Kent.
It took longer than
three minutes.
It was within the space
of more than a phone booth.
But sure enough,
we saw him discard
the old man.

At first, all we could see
through his daily rags
were some royal blue patches
and even the bottom loop
of a red "S".

But one day
he said something
and a mountain moved
and we witnessed
the power within him.

Here we thought he
was just a journalist.
