In the new believer, as the soul comes out of the grave, it does not occur without a cost. There is a cost in following Jesus. We are told that we must pick up our cross every day and follow after Him. Picking up our cross means that we must die. We must die to our old self, the self which lived in what was important to those of this world. We must sacrifice for the advancement of the kingdom. We must think of others and not of our self-centered desires. So, yes, there is a death in the rising of the soul from the grave. It is death to the enslavement of what is given to us by earthly desires. Yes, we do have needs, and we ask God to provide for them. But we must say “Speak Lord, your servant is listening.” We must then obey.
