Salvation: The Gift of God Explained

Dear friend,
I wrote this poem to help express the glorious truth of salvation as revealed in the Bible—truth that often surprises us yet brings the deepest hope. Salvation is not earned, not achieved, but given freely by God’s grace alone. This is the heart of the Gospel, and it starts with God’s sovereign work drawing us near and opening our eyes to new life.

Scripture declares, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9, KJV). Salvation is truly a gift from the Father, completely undeserved and unmerited by anything we can do. This gift comes by the Spirit’s power, who quickens our hearts and helps us see what we never saw before (John 3:5-8).

The poem mentions that when the Spirit deals with us, it “opens up your eyes” and “you see what you’ve not seen before and have a brand new heart.” This is the new birth Jesus spoke of: “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3, KJV). The Spirit regenerates us, making us alive in Him and giving us a new desire to follow Christ.

Once saved, we enter God’s Kingdom and find that we have a part in His family. We begin to see what Christ did on the cross—“He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5, KJV). The cross was an awful cost, but it purchased for us eternal victory. When Christ rose again, “thy faith hath made thee whole” (Luke 17:19, KJV) because His resurrection guarantees our victory and new life.

Salvation doesn’t stop with a one-time event. It brings ongoing guidance through God’s Word and ministers who support us in fellowship. The body of Christ—our brothers and sisters—are God’s gifts to strengthen us when times are rough. “As each one hath received a gift, minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” (1 Peter 4:10, KJV). Fellowship is not optional but essential: “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together.” (Hebrews 10:24-25, KJV).

Following Christ is not always smooth; there will be struggles and opposition. Yet the Spirit is there to soothe and strengthen. “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things.” (John 14:26, KJV). God does not forsake His children in their times of need.

The poem’s closing lines echo one of the most comforting and solemn promises: when we abide in God and seek His face, “The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.” (Psalm 145:18, KJV). No matter the darkness or trial, God remains close to His own.

In summary, salvation is the glorious, unmerited gift of God through Jesus Christ, initiated and sustained by the Spirit, lived out in community and Scripture, and carried forward by God’s faithful presence. This is the true Good News—the truth that changes hearts and lives forever.
