Hold My Trust In Thee!

Oh Lord, help me lean more on Thee and less upon myself,
May all my guidance come from Thee; leave my will on the shelf.
I’ve heard that wisdom comes with age; but no, it comes from Thee,
And trusting mine own heart and mind can make a wreck of me!

Help me spend more time in Thy Word and less in my own head,
Where Satan can influence me and cause me fear and dread.
So I can know and share Thy Word to soothe a troubled soul,
And have more peace, more close to Thee, as I am growing old.

Oh Lord, I seek to do my best, but my best falls way short,
And if I’d lean on Thee alone, I’d leave it in Your court.
Where things would be just as they should, and I would know more peace,
Then happiness could fill my heart: my fear and angst would cease.

My Lord, Thy words that I have read—let them guide my way,
But anger has come over some I’ve tried to coax and sway.
And such a wedge seems to have formed that’s keeping us apart,
Where once was love and fellowship, I now have an aching heart.

When loved ones do not walk the path as Thy Word does command,
Help me know when to simply pray and leave it in Thy hand.
When I cannot find the words they need to hear,
Give me the peace to trust in Thee; relieve my doubts and fear.

For, Lord, I know Thou’rt in control, and Thy will shall be done,
That when my Christ rose from the grave, the victory was won.
And I know when I turn to Thee, I feel my soul relieved,
And once again, Lord, Thou’st rescued me when I was sad and grieved!

Holding My Trust in God Through Life’s Battles

Dear friend,

This poem, “Hold My Trust In Thee,” is a heartfelt prayer born from my own walk with weakness, uncertainty, and the daily need to depend on God’s grace. Like many who wrestle with faith and the trials of life, I find myself oftentimes leaning on my own understanding or strength—and falling short. This message is one of honest confession but also of hope, reminding us all of where true wisdom and peace come from.

The first plea is simple: help me lean more on Thee and less on myself. The Bible deeply warns us about trusting in our own heart: “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5, KJV). Too often we try to steer our own course, but that path leads to confusion and failure. God invites us to find rest and guidance solely in Him.

Wisdom is not reserved for the aged or the clever—it comes from God alone. James reminds us, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” (James 1:5, KJV). This was my prayer: to spend more time in God’s Word, where the peace we seek is planted—not in our minds clouded by fear and doubt but in the firm foundation of Scripture.

You’ll notice in the poem I confess that my best is never enough. I must surrender my striving and trust in God’s sovereign plan: “Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.” (Proverbs 16:3, KJV). Releasing control to God is sometimes the hardest act of faith, but it leads to true peace and joy. My battle is not only with external struggles but with the fears and angsts my mind conjures when I try to bear burdens alone.

The poem also speaks to the pain of relational strains caused when loved ones stray from God’s path. This breaks my heart. Paul encourages us to respond rightly: “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.” (Galatians 6:1, KJV). But there is also wisdom in knowing when to pray and trust God rather than push beyond our human ability. The peace that comes from trusting God—even when words fail—is a precious gift.

This prayer reflects my deep assurance that God is in control, and His will will prevail. The resurrection power of Christ is the victory that sustains me daily: “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57, KJV). This hope is not fragile optimism but a sure foundation that revives my soul when I am low and grieved.

Lastly, the poem is not just confession but testimony. Time and again, when I turn my eyes to the Lord, I find relief and restoration. Psalm 34:18 promises, “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” If you are weary, fearful, doubting, know today that God’s grace has met me—and can meet you—in every struggle.

So, dear reader, if you face your own battles—internal or external—I urge you to hold your trust in the Lord. Spend time in His Word. Pray boldly. Surrender your will and lean fully upon Him. Wisdom, strength, and peace come not from human effort but from the One who holds all things in His hand. May this prayer and message encourage you to rely on His unchanging grace every moment.
