Author requests article critique

"Is your pain all gone yet?" Dina asked.

"Not just yet," Paul replied. It won't be over until Jesus Christ takes my soul while I'm asleep, he thought to himself.

"Well, then, whenever we're home, I'm always going to stick really close by you and keep you company, big brother," Dina promised. "By the way, is it OK if I sleep in your room tonight? I can hear Chaz barking right outside my window, and he won't shut up. I wish our neighbors would do something about that mutt!"

"Yeah, that's one annoying dog. All right, you can stay in here with me," Paul agreed. He figured he would let Dina stay in his room, since he intended to leave his room for her. He set her gently on th ground.

Dina was already wearing her polka dot pajamas, so she just lay down on top of her brother's bed. Paul pulled half of the covers around his little sister and half of the covers around himself. "There we go," he said to Dina. "How are you doing, little sister? Are you warm? Are you comfortable?"

Dina nodded.

"Good." Paul thought of how it would be his last night in this bed. He would be in Heaven with Jesus by morning. He decided to give Dina a farewell hug without telling her that it was a farewell hug. He held Dina close to his chest and kissed her on her forehead about twenty times.

Dina couldn't understand why her brother was acting like he was going on a long trip and wouldn't be back for years. "Is everything all right, big brother?" she asked.

Paul didn't know how to explain that Jesus Christ was going to take his soul that night, and he definitely didn't know how to explain that he had been praying for that to happen. "Dina, do you know how the stars in the night sky are really far away from us?"

Dina nodded.

"Well, my sweet little sister, the distance that the stars are away from Earth is the same distance that my love for you extends," Paul said softly. "I want you to promise me that you'll always remember that."

Dina was puzzled. "How could I forget that? You're my big brother. We're always doing things together. I never doubt that you love me."

"Please promise me," Paul insisted.

"OK, I promise," Dina said. "By the way, the distance you described is the same distance that my love for you extends."

Paul wondered if Dina would be mad at him for dying once she woke up in the morning and saw that Jesus Christ had taken his soul. "Promise me that you will always love me that much," he said. "No matter what happens, I want you to promise me that."

Dina didn't understand why her brother was saying the things he was saying, but she said, "OK, I promise."

"Good. Now, I want you to promise me that even if you can't see me, you'll know that I'll always love you," Paul persisted.

Dina assumed that Paul was referring to his upcoming move to Princeton. She said, "Of course I promise you that, Paul. I know that you'll still love me when you're at Princeton. I know that you'll be far away and that you'll sometimes get busy with your part-time job and your studying, but I'll always love you, and I know you'll always love me, no matter how far away from me you are."

Paul figured that he would let Dina think that he was referring to Princeton. "I'm glad you know that," was all he said.
