Trust in the Lord...submit to Him...Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.”

(Proverbs 3:5-10)

On the wall, in the hallway, is a plaque quoting Proverbs 3:6. It was a leaving gift, a 'thank you' for our time in service to our church family. I think that was the most precious gift my family and I left London with, alongside the memories created there with loved ones.

Whenever I look at that plaque, I’m reminded that I have limited knowledge and therefore I must allow God to direct my paths.

I committed verses 5 and 6 to memory, and throughout the years, it often comes to remind me that I am not in control. God is! It guided me through the years of parenting our son, and as I try to honour God in my role as a wife, and whatever role I find myself standing in.

Today, I spent the entire morning pouring my heart out to God, through words, on the pages of my journal. Towards the end of my time with God, said verses came to my memory. So I opened my Bible to Proverbs 3 and began reading. I didn’t get past verse 10.

My journalling time ended as follows:

'Lord, You know what’s best.

You call me to trust You.

I will trust you.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.” (Proverbs 3:5-8).

If I do what I am commanded to do in this chapter, particularly the verses quoted above, then the blessings will continue to flow, based on verses 9 and 10:

“Honour the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.”

Then I realised God was answering a prayer I prayed in an earlier [marriage] journal:

"Father in heaven, I surrender my will to Yours; I surrender my ways to Yours; I trust You to make me into the vessel You desire me to be; You are the Potter, I don't know for what purpose You created me; or have me in this situation. So, as I wait on You, I surrender all my expectations to You; and all that I thought ...my life would be. 'Take my life and let it be consecrated, LORD, to Thee...'"'

I went to locate my song book for the words of that song and got distracted. But what a beautiful distraction it was! I found myself in Proverbs 3 and ended with a new journal entry which inspired this article.

I pray it will help you on your journey.

Your Sister, in Christ,
Janice

Thankk you for your transparency, Sis!

Father does know best! Complete surrender to our Almighty God should be the easiest thing we can and should do, but we make it into the hardest. [I do the things I shouldn't do and fail to do the things I should... Ugh. So true!] Lord have mercy!

[SWEET SURRENDER]
Jody R Goode © 8/24/2004

The struggles of this life have pinned me to the wall
I find myself powerless to take even one step more

There was a day long ago
When You were pinned to a tree
There for me
To set me free
O, why couldnt I see!?

At long last, my eyes are open " I understand "
When I am weak, only then can You be strong
This was Your plan all along

To stand, I must fall
What's right is now wrong
I cannot do this thing alone!

I give in, yet will not give up

There You are before me, to raise me up
To lead me to the righteous path
Forever with me as You've promised
Never to forsake
A solid Rock on which to stand

Although Your ways are far too deep to fathom
In You I find rest, peace
And, O, so sweet surrender
For my soul
