“You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.” Luke 12:40 NLT
The other day I was making breakfast. When everything was almost done, I slipped a few slices of bread into the toaster and pressed the lever. I pressed it again…and again, but the darn thing wouldn’t stay down. After pressing the lever more times than I want to admit, I realized—yes, you’ve probably guessed by now—it was unplugged. Not surprisingly, the appliance will not work if it isn’t attached to a power source.

This is so like our walk with God—If we don’t stay connected to our power source than we won’t shine. And aren’t we called to be His light to the world? Yet, how many times do we go to church on Sunday, maybe even attend a mid-week group or church service, and the rest of the time we rarely (or never) even think about or spend time with God?
Years ago, I read a book a book on the Power of Prayer where the author said that most Christians only pray about five minutes a day. Then on Sunday, my Pastor said that statistics show that most Christian’s only spend about forty-three seconds reading scripture each day. I must admit that some days, these facts describe me—maybe you can relate. Yet, if I want to be ready on the day of Christ’s return—and I do—then I need to stay constantly connected to my source of power here on earth—the Holy Spirit. What about you?
Are you unplugged?
