If Jesus Got Married

Marriage is a sacred covenant, a divine institution reflecting God’s love for His people (Ephesians 5:25-27, NASB). If Jesus, the embodiment of perfect love, were married, His actions would exemplify sacrificial love, servant leadership, and unwavering commitment, rooted in biblical principles. Let us explore how Jesus might live out His marriage, guided by Scripture.

First, Jesus would love His spouse selflessly, as He loves the church. Ephesians 5:25 instructs, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her.” Jesus would prioritize His wife’s spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being, laying down His own desires to serve her. His love would be patient and kind, never envious or proud (1 Corinthians 13:4-7), creating a home filled with grace and mutual respect.

Second, Jesus would lead with humility. In John 13:14-15, after washing His disciples’ feet, He said, “If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you.” In marriage, Jesus would serve His spouse, not seeking dominance but partnership, fostering unity through humility and shared purpose.

Third, Jesus would forgive and extend grace. Colossians 3:13 reminds us, “Just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.” In the inevitable challenges of marriage, Jesus would respond with compassion, addressing conflicts with truth and love, always seeking reconciliation. His words would build up, not tear down, reflecting Ephesians 4:29: “Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification.”

Finally, Jesus would pray fervently for His marriage. In John 17:20-21, He prayed for unity among His followers, a principle applicable to marriage. He would seek God’s guidance, trusting Him to strengthen their bond.

Consider: How can you emulate Jesus’ love, humility, forgiveness, and prayer in your relationships? Let His example inspire you to love sacrificially and live in unity.

Lord, help us reflect Your love in our marriages, serving and forgiving as You do. May our homes glorify You. Amen.

Why does God hate divorce? Because God's standard is love (1 Cor 13:4-8, Rom 13:8-10). Many people get hurt when a couple divorces, both spouses, the children, family and friends can all be affected. Stay together and work it out as a witness to the world for Christ. The grass in not greener on the other side.
