I struck up a conversation with a stranger on my evening walk around the lake. I noticed he had binoculars around his neck, and asked him if he had been observing the wildlife. He responded that he had been looking for birds.
"Have you noticed any in particular?" I asked. "Only an owl and a bat." He answered, smiling a little sheepishly. As I walked on I noted to myself that most people wouldn't care a hoot about an owl or a bat.
