As Christians under the New Covenant, we are liberated from the Mosaic Law through Christ’s sacrifice. Scripture affirms that believers are not under the Law, have died to it, and are freed from its demands, living by grace through faith. Let us explore a few key verses that reveal this truth, encouraging us to walk in Christ’s freedom.

Romans 6:14 declares, “For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.” Grace governs us, freeing us from sin’s power that came from the law (1 Cor 15:56), and the Law’s ensuing condemnation. The law gave sin the power to condemn us. 

Galatians 3:23-25 explains, “Before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law… But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.” The Law was a temporary guardian; Christ’s coming freed us to live by faith.

Romans 7:4 states, “Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead.” Through Christ’s death, we died to the Law, united with Him in new life. These verses in Romans mention adultry, making it crystal clear the law spoken of includes the 10 commandments. 

Galatians 5:1 urges, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.” The Law was a yoke; Christ liberates us.

Hebrews 7:18-19 affirms, “For on the one hand there is an annulling of the former commandment… for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope.” The New Covenant offers perfection through Christ.

Colossians 2:14 reveals that Christ, “having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us… nailed it to the cross,” canceling the Law’s demands. Christ fulfilled the law for us.

These verses assure us that we are free from the Law. Should we sin because we are no longer under the law but under grace? By no means. We are called to believe in Jesus as our Savior and to love God and love others. Love is the one and only thing that fulfills the law.

Romans 13:8-10 teaches, “Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, ‘You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,’ and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.”
