Apologetics
'29]He who troubles his own house will inherit the wind, And the fool will be servant to the wise of heart."_ Proverbs 11:29.
The words of wisdom above are true at any time of the day irrespective of nation, tongue, tribe, or race. Any member can attract troubles or good things to their household at any time and in any form. Do you know that this can happen to a man no matter his status in society?
This was what happened to a man of great wealth during the reign of King Saul in Israel.
The Scriptures describe him thus in 1 Samuel 25:3,
"[3]The name of the man was Nabal, and the name of his wife was Abigail. And she was a woman of good understanding and beautiful appearance, but the man was harsh and evil in his doings. He was of the house of Caleb."_
Can you see the mystery in marriage here? Two opposite people were a couple living under the same roof! In various ways, both influenced what would happen to their household.
The husband was the first who invite death into the family because of a simple request from a young man, David, who was in his trying period.
The request was "[8]...Please give whatever comes to hand to your servants and your son David.’”_ 1 Samuel 25.
As a "harsh and evil man" that he was, he reviled those sent to him by David.
This provoked David and his men who purposed to destroy all males in Nabal's house.
A servant reported to Abigail
"[17]Now therefore, know and consider what you will do, for harm is determined against our master and all his household. For he is such a scoundrel that one cannot speak to him.” 1 Samuel 25.
It was the wisdom and understanding of the woman that ward off the evil determined against him and his household. She acted hastily to meet the needs of David and his young men, and they sheathed their swords.
Proverbs 11:29 states that anyone who troubles his house will reap the wind. Nabal reaped death on the tenth day because God killed him.
Beloved, can you see the effect of every action taken by each member of a household? May the Lord endow you with the wisdom and understanding to influence your household positively to the glory of God in the name of Jesus Christ. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
