I Love my Country

I am thankful that I was born in this country.  Suppose God had decided to begin my life in the Sudan or Ethiopia.  When I see the thousands of men, women, and children walking endlessly in search of food and water, I weep, realizing many will never reach the food supply.  I see parents holding their dying children in their arms, not knowing if any of them will make it to the next day.  When I hear of North Koreans who are programmed to obey the country’s leadership and never to express opinions, it causes me to grieve.  I could go on and on, but it would only be words that darken the reality of the world. 

We are blessed to live in this country, yet countless numbers continually find flaws in its garment.  Politicians have chosen to push their agendas instead of what is best for the country.  Major political parties fight for dominance instead of striving to come to an understanding of how to make our country a beacon of light to a darkened world.  The ballot box means nothing to those with priorities to dismantle their opposition.  The only qualification that many office seekers have is that they got more votes than their opponent.  Egos are on display as soon as the elected are sworn into office.  The days of unity between the major political parties are nothing more than a fleeting memory. Sadly, much of the animosity is directed toward the highest office in the land.  Instead of accepting the will of the people, they march in unity to delegitimize the elected leader.

How soon we forget that “there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God” (Romans 13:1).  God uses political leaders to bring judgment and advancement.  “Whosoever therefore resists the power, resist the ordinance of God; and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.” (Romans 13:2)  The problem is that our Christian nation is flooded with an anti-God mentality.

Our country is not perfect, but it is a plan in action.  The Apostle Paul used a phrase that could also apply to the United States: “…He which has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6)  Our country became a place of religious freedom, and throughout the next two hundred years it has experienced growing pains.  There were highs and lows, but God was there all the time. 

Satan is alive and well in this country.  He is determined to bring about his purpose to divide and conquer.  We are experiencing attacks against Judeo/Christian on a daily basis.  The United States is God’s creation.  As God’s hand is on Israel, so is it upon the United States.  It is a land “flowing with milk and honey.”  Christians must keep their eyes on the author and finisher of our faith.  We must grow and flow throughout our land so that the world will see what God can and is doing.

God is not done with America.  But if America is done with God, we will see the reality of Jesus’ words, “If a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.” (Mark 3:24)
