Life is strange
With all its twists and turns.
With each of life’s tragedies,
Try to see it as a chance to learn.

We can shout and scream
How it’s unfair and unjust.
But as hard as it seems,
We must learn to trust,

That HE will get us through,
All the pain, and anger,
And being through it, this I know.
With HIS help we can learn to cope.

When my child died,
I felt hurt and confused.
I didn’t want to lean on my husband,
Because I knew he was hurting too.

I felt the weight of the world
Was on my shoulders.
And with each day that went by,
That I was ten years older.

And through it all,
I asked “Dear God please,
Help me take one day at a time,
And help the pain ease.”

I did start taking each day,
One day at a time.
And tried very hard
Not to clutter my mind,

With things that could have been,
Might have been, things I should have done.
And I started thanking God
For the time I did have with my son.

I started writing poetry more.
It helps me to cope with it all.
And when things started bothering me,
I’d talk to my son's picture on the wall.

And with each day that went by,
When I didn’t dwell or cry.
I’d say “Aren’t you proud of me son?”
“I made it through another one!”

Oh, I still get weak at times,
And think back and wonder why.
But the smiles are more frequent,
And there are fewer times I cry.

So to those suffering now,
Let me offer a few words,
Although to some right now,
This may sound completely absurd.

Don’t expect to feel better at first
At least not right away.
Start slow and build up,
Learn to cope a little each day.

And when things start overwhelming you,
For what seems like no reason or rhyme.
Take a deep breath, say a little prayer,
And take it ONE DAY AT A TIME.
