It was a typical Mycenae, New York school morning; Mom began her routine with plugging in the electric coffee pot that had been prepared the night before. Music from 1260 WNDR broke the silence as she turned on our Motorola table top radio. It was another school morning and time to open the kitchen café curtains to let in the sunlight. Mom would be waking us up to get ready to catch the school bus.

We might not realize how easily we develop habits and routines. Many celebrities are stalked after demented fans learn their daily routines and anticipate every move. The enemies of Daniel were well aware of his daily routine and devotion to his God. They involved the king in a scheme to trap Daniel and to have him executed. People were forbidden to worship any other god than the king.

“Now when Daniel learned that the document was signed, he entered his house (and in his roof chamber he had windows open toward Jerusalem); and he continued kneeling on his knees three times a day, praying and offering praise before his God, just as he had been doing previously. Then these men came by agreement and found Daniel offering a prayer and imploring favor before his God (Daniel 6:10-11 NASB).”

Daniel was faithful to the one true God. He stood firm in his faith and the Lord delivered him from his enemies. Religious persecution and executions continues today; are we praying for persecuted Christians?
