What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self? Luke 9:25 NIV
Your very inner being is your soul. Your soul shall live after your body passes from this world. Why would one do anything to sacrifice the eternal well-being of their very self? I believe many choose to believe that when the body dies all the person is gone. The flesh may be gone, but the spirit lives on. Do you want your spirit to live eternally separated from God and all His goodness? There is nothing good without God. Only evil exists outside of the eternal presence of God.
