Our Hope Is God’s Sufficiency In Us
            By Robert Schaetzle

And hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us. Romans 5:5 RSV

I keep reminding myself that hope that is controlled by me  is not hope. If I control the outcome it’s not God’s sufficiency but my will. When I take time listening to the voice of God’s Spirit lead me, I’m recognizing  His ways are so much higher and better than what I think or feel. Especially daily determining  to hear the voice of God’s Spirit, and put them in my own heart for true hope. Learning to lean on God’s sufficiency takes practice.

Like the risk to ride our first two wheel bicycle as a youngster. A while back, my six year old granddaughter wanted me to watch her ride her new two wheel bicycle without training wheels, like her older sister has.

It's that kind of excitement and pride that true hope brings. Hope in recognizing our Savior’s sufficiency. As we commit or dedicate our tasks for the hope of His purpose, the result is learning to decrease (my will) and for His to increase. (John 3:30) John the Baptist understood, he was to instruct his followers to look to the One who created us. Hope from His sufficiency.

I like reading a chapter of Proverbs each day according to the day of the month. Proverbs concern themselves not only with those who speak, but those who listen. They caution  against accepting anything that is said without careful discretion. All God’s words matter when listening to them carefully.

But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. Romans 8:25

This is the true blessing to understand and hold onto, with excitement, as like my granddaughter riding her new two wheel bicycle.

Father, hope from your sufficiency will never disappoint us. The voice of your Spirit truly is promised hope.
