It's story time
[In contribution to Marriage Week 2025]

During Covid Lockdown, my family and I were members at another branch of the church. In 2021 we decided it was time to move on and Stopsley Baptist Church (SBC) was where we believed God was leading us as a family.  Our son needed a place where he could engage with people within his own age range who were also walking out their faith.  As parents, we needed people who were older and more mature than we were to help us parent well in this coaching season.


Being at SBC is an answer to a two (2) decade long prayer of our mentor, Milton Grant, who prayed we would find a home here. Milton and his late wife, Inez, were assigned to Vince and I by our then pastor, who officiated our wedding ceremony. Before leaving London, Milton recommended checking out SBC, a potential church home for us. We did!


We visited once. We enjoyed the service and the people were very friendly but we made a choice to attend a more local church where we would not be restricted by travel. That decision found us travelling from one church to the next, becoming members at three different churches prior to coming back to SBC.


We've been here since 2021 and I personally have benefited from the various teaching series, The Difference Course and the women's retreat day in April 2024. It is also an answered prayer for Godly mentors in our son's life. Now we seek Godly discipleship in our personal lives and our marriage, moving forward.

A call to serve

Because of the journey we have been on, as a family, and the evidence of God's goodness in our lives, I  wanted to respond to the call on Sunday 8th February 2025, to use my gift to help encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ.


I would like to start by saying, 'Happy Marriage Week' to all the married couples reading this. I would also like to encourage you to spend some time investing in the health of your marriage, not just this week but whenever the opportunity presents itself throughout the year. Please also take responsibility for creating those opportunities. Marriage is to be honoured by all (Heb. 13:4) so please prioritise your marriage and continue to serve your spouse.


Marriage Week is celebrated in the UK and many parts of the world from 7 to 14 February each year. It is a great time to pause from the busyness of life and reflect on the purpose of marriage and the reason you chose to do life with your spouse. It is a time to reflect on the vows made before God and others on your wedding day, then keep chasing after each other.


Your wedding anniversary is a time to be purposeful in making time for each other, away from the busyness of life and to invest in the health of your marriage. Making time for each other is not just a direct investment into your own marriage but into the health of your children's relationships and ultimately their own marriages.


What you do today, will impact your children's future either positively or negatively. It will also have a similar impact in the parent-child relationship during the adult years which will impact the relationship you have with your grandchildren. Marriage is a gift that keeps on giving.


Whatever you do, make it count!
