Seeing the wife knitting baby clothes a father-to-be learns the big news. They’re going to be parents and he couldn’t be more proud. The nursery dresser is soon stocked with knitted sweaters, booties, bonnets and blankets.

Do the parents realize that God is knitting the child in mom’s womb?

The Psalmist gave God credit for his beginning.

“For you formed my inward parts;
    you knitted me together in my mother's womb (Psalm 139:13 ESV).”

Hand knitted baby blankets are soft and warm but fall far short of the warmth of the womb.

God prepared Mary’s womb as the angel Gabriel prepared her. “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy offspring shall be called the Son of God (Luke 1:35 NASB)."

The Son of God left behind the glory of heaven; Jesus came to earth and took on the embryo of human flesh.

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth (John 1:14 ESV).”

His mother Mary felt life; the life of the giver of everlasting life.

“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life.Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live (John 11:25 ESV).”
