A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. The demons begged Jesus to let them go into the pigs, and he gave them permission. When the demons came out of the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned. Luke 8:32-33 NIV

Why did the pigs run down into the lake and drown? Do you ever wonder what havoc a herd of demon-possessed pigs could cause? I don’t believe I would want to be responsible for handling such a situation. Could it be that Jesus did not want these demons to remain in this area, and by having the pigs drown the demons would then enter the abyss, leaving them to seek out a new residence? We do not know what happened to those demons, but they would not have chosen to remain in drowned pigs.
