HURRICANE HELENE

“My heart is in anguish within me;
the terrors of death have fallen on me.
Fear and trembling have beset me;
horror has overwhelmed me.
I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove!
I would fly away and be at rest. . .
I would hurry to my place of shelter,
far from the tempest and storm.”
(Psalm 55: 4–6, 8, NIV)

Storm systems strengthen hurricanes
with wind speeds that increase.
They violate — they devastate —
they’re strong — they leave no peace.

Helene released her wrath on land
and claimed so many lives.
She brought with her strong winds and floods,
but some did not survive.

A mighty force, so powerful
that whirled and circled ‘round.
Helene uprooted home and lives
of many not yet found.

They’re lost — they’re scared — they are confused —
their hardship’s hard to bear.
Their fear is real — it’s not a dream —
it’s hell — a bad nightmare.

So many are in dire straits
and need our help today.
They feel betrayed by government
who gave their funds away.

Let’s help our people — those displaced
who cry out desperately.
They need our help — they need our care
let’s answer every plea.
