John 8:31-36 (KJV) Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
And the servant abideth not in the house forever: but the Son abideth ever.
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

If I were to leave to leave you with a word, it would simply be: Americans are not free.

Here in the scriptures, Jesus was talking to the Jews about spiritual freedom from the bondage of sin and that salvation and true freedom are only in Jesus Christ. And upon receiving this truth, they shall be free.

But I want to talk about a different freedom as the holiday approaches: the freedom that Americans think we have.

Here in America, millions of Americans are preparing to celebrate the 4th of July, which is known as independence day.

The history of Independence Day is as follows:

Also called the Fourth of July, Independence Day marks the historic date in 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress. The written declaration stated that the American colonies were tired of being ruled by Great Britain. They wanted to become their own country.

Before the declaration, America was part of the Kingdom of Great Britain (now called the United Kingdom). In the 1600s, people came from Great Britain to settle in what is now North America. Between 1607 and 1732, the British founded 13 colonies: Virginia, New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Georgia.

As these colonies grew, the people who lived there thought the British government treated them unfairly. For instance, they had to pay taxes on items such as tea and allow British soldiers to stay in their homes. The colonists had to follow these laws but couldn’t do anything to change them. The colonists rebelled. As a result, the Revolutionary War between the colonists and Great Britain began in 1775.

A GROWING ANGER

Fighting wasn’t enough, though. The colonists decided they needed to declare their independence in writing to explain their reasons and gain support from other countries like France. On July 4, 1776, a small group of representatives from the colonies—called the Continental Congress—adopted the Declaration of Independence.

In school, we were taught that America was a free nation or leaders of the free world. We were told that the USA is a freedom loving society. In fact, there's a statement in our constitution that says all men are created equal. Freedom is a good thing, but only if you are truly free, which includes spiritual liberation.

Since the 1800s, immigrants have been coming to America in search of the American dream, in the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness. Many immigrants have built businesses and institutions that contribute to the success of one's livelihood.

But Americans are not free. Throughout the history of time, Americans have seen a loss of "independence." The US has been in more conflicts that any nation around the world, and as a result, have accumulated more debt than any country around the world. Someone's got to pay for the debt, and that someone is the American people.

If you know how debt works, you understand that debt makes you a slave. Proverbs 22:7 says, "The borrower is servant to the lender."
This is true when you take out a mortgage to buy a home, car, or loan for advanced learning. The borrower is the servant.

Taxes prove that Americans are not free. Even if you pay off your mortgage but do not pay your property taxes, your home will be confiscated. Various taxes are taken out of your check before you even see a dime.

Inflation is a hidden tax that increases every year. Therefore, inflation results in your dollars becoming worthless on an annual basis. There was a time in America when a family of four was able to live comfortably off of one salary. Now, that same family requires two incomes.

Due to the increasing burden of inflation, you have to work harder and harder to maintain what you have. As a business owner, if customers can't afford your products and/or services, you'll have to lower your prices or go out of business. Because the cost of living remains increasingly high, many retirees have to supplement their retirement with another job.

If you think about it, Americans are not really free. We have an illusion of freedom. Yet, if you ask most Americans about freedom, they'll tell that America is a free nation. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Freedoms and liberties are being threatened every day. Freedom of speech regarding certain topics is censored if the establishments do not agree or want an informed public. Gun rights are targeted even though guns don't kill it's the individual behind the gun.

If your freedoms or liberties can be taken away from you, are you truly free? If your wealth can be destroyed by increasing taxes, inflation(hidden tax), and debt, are you really independent? The cost of living keeps rising, but the wages remain low.

Politics is a game, and the joke is on the American people. You're GIVEN two choices to vote for: Democrat or Republican. Both parties are basically the same. One tells you a lie, and the other one lies that he told you a lie. It's a circus act.

In closing, we live in a debt based economy, which means Americans are not free. As an immigrant, you can come to America to start a business and not pay taxes for a certain amount of years.

The purpose of this writing is not to offend but to give the reader something to think about as he or she eats hot dogs and burgers and sets off fireworks. I understand that many people will disagree, become emotional, and find fault with this writing. That's okay. Apparently, a nerve was struck. Don't get me wrong, I would rather live in America than any other place in the world because there are other nations that have it far worse. However, there is a reality that just can't be ignored.

Obviously, there are Americans who are wealthy and can travel around the world freely. They never worry about a paycheck and seem to have the world as their oyster. They do have a measure of Independence.

This represents a small percentage of individuals, not the masses. However, the monetary system, as we know it, is coming to an end. A new system is being put in place. The new system is a digital form of control that will affect everyone regardless of economic status.

America, nor Americans are free. This republic is controlled by too big to fail banks and corporations. They control your loans and your jobs. If you're a business owner who relies on debt to grow your enterprise, your independence can be contained.

This nation is over 100 trillion dollars in debt if you factor in the unfunded/underfunded liabilities such as social security, Medicare, and even retirement plans.

Furthermore, when most people in my generation reach retirement age, those safety nets are probably going to be non-existent. To think about all the money you paid into those programs only to see them vanish in your golden years is heart breaking. That doesn't sound like freedom or independence to me.

All one has to do is stop and think about the bondage of such debt. So Jesus says, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Once you learn the truth, it's hard to go back to a lie. Cheers to freedom or the illusion of it. God bless.
