How often would you be furious with someone who is kind and merciful? I expect that this would only occur if you at the same time were not being kind to the one who is shown mercy and compassion. If you were called out for your actions or words by the one who was being compassionate, you might be angry with them. These Pharisees and teachers of the law had no room for Jesus in their teachings. They wanted control over the people. They sought recognition for themselves and not for God.
