Knock on a few doors in your neighbourhood, ask people why they think they’ll get to heaven, and you’ll be amazed at some of the answers.

 My father was a Baptist
 I was christened as a baby
 I’m a good person, never did any harm
 I believe there’s a God

None of those are biblical—and won’t get them into heaven. Multiply this thinking a few thousand or million times and we see what misunderstanding there is.

Very few can give an accurate, biblical reason why they’ll be in heaven. Many don’t understand who Jesus is. So we see the massive, enormous, gigantic task for the churches and individual Christians to get the truth across.

It isn’t happening because too much time and money is spent on inward-looking activities which don't enlighten the ignorant population outside the church walls.

Right now there are probably six or eight little churches in any one town, each doing their own little thing. Yet all are serving one Master.

Much could be achieved if they would unite and have a pooled fund. Then the money could be spent on a big campaign to educate the general public as to the importance of Jesus.

He is the One who will judge all non-believers, who will send those who’ve ignored the gospel to eternal death. Many in the world think Jesus is just a vague religious figure they can take or leave, wave away like a waiter at a party. Few are warning them of the consequences.

Having said that, the message we give must not be weak, watered-down, lacking the essential truths of the gospel.

People need to know and understand the key words— baptism, the blood, born again, the cross, forgiveness, heaven, hell, repentance, sin. They need to understand Jesus came to save them personally, and the terrible price to be paid for ignoring Him.

Tee-shirts can get the message to many. Mine says “Heaven? Repent, trust Jesus.” On judgement day anyone who has read it cannot say they didn’t know. It won’t cost a fortune to have a T-shirt embroidered with your message. It’s read everywhere you go. Which is more important—your embarrassment, or someone getting off the road to hell?

Tracts are good if they contain the gospel. They can go from hand to hand. A discarded one can even be picked up in the street!

The Holy Spirit convicts people of their need for Christ, but Jesus told us to be the messengers.

I can’t think of anything more awful than millions going into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:15). The world starts in our neighbourhood. So let’s educate them.
