A Journey To Humbleness

By nature, everyone is selfish and proud. Therefore, to leave the status of a proud man to that of a humble man involves movement from one point to another. It is a journey that is unavoidable. It must be undertaken under the righteous and able hand of your Heavenly Father.

No humble man wakes up one day and finds himself so. He moved to attain the status.

A practical example is Prophet Moses. The Holy Scriptures disclose about this great man of God thus,
"12:3 (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)" Numbers. King James Version (KJV).

The question to ask is, "When did Moses become very meek above all the men?" Can it be said of him when he was in the King's palace in the land of Egypt? It cannot be so. He grew up in opulence as a son of Pharaoh's daughter without any experience of how life hardship modified people. So, he could not have attained the status of a humble man in the palace.

To move him forward towards the status of a humble man, he was taken out of the best comfort zone he has ever lived in. He killed an Egyptian because of a Hebrew man. The king heard about this, so he, Moses, had to run away for his life. He fled to Midian where he sojourned with Jethro, the Priest of Midian.

This took place when Moses was forty years old. You are not wrong to state that he was weaned at forty years old to have an entirely different experience.

A palace man became a shepherd leading sheep of Jethro, who became his father-in-law. In other words, this was how Moses became friends and companions with sheep, animals, and birds regularly. He also had time to concentrate on his new life which was the complete opposite of what he was used to. This also gave him the grace to think more about his God than being occupied by Egyptian cultures and practices.

He was in this state for another forty years. This second phase of his life did a lot to create a new heart that did not see any reason to be proud because the Lord had made him know that the Lord can bring a man down, no matter how highly placed. This also took another forty years.

After Moses had acquired the palace leadership knowledge and leadership in the bush, where he was to lead God's people, he was called to begin his role as a leader of the children of Israel. He also did this for another forty years. That was how Moses' life was divided into three equal parts of forty years each.

Beloved, can you see that there is a need to undertake a journey to the status of being meek or humble? Let me not fail to tell you that your present negative experience may be a form of journey to the place or status of being humble. Endure it and learn humility. May the Lord be with you in the name of Jesus Christ. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
