Easter Bunny in the Empty Tomb

by Donna Dickason Boyette at StoriesfortheRoad.com

Most rabbits have lots and lots of baby bunnies, but a very long time ago there was a Daddy Rabbit who had only one Baby Bunny Boy, and he loved him very much.

One day, Daddy Rabbit and Baby Bunny were hopping and jumping along the rocks and among the bushes when they came to a great big cave. It was a big dark cave, but it was a sunny bright day so Daddy Rabbit pressed his nose to Baby Bunny’s nose to say, “Yes, you may play inside the cave, but be very careful and watchful.”

Daddy Rabbit hopped around nearby as he watched his Bunny Boy play in the cave. Then he heard people coming so he jumped quick to the bushes and he looked fast to the cave to see if his Bunny Boy would hop out. Baby Bunny heard the people, too, but he jumped into the back of the cave to hide.

Daddy Rabbit didn’t watch the people as they went into the cave. He kept his eyes right on the dark spot where he last saw his Baby Bunny Boy. The people made a lot of noise, but Daddy Rabbit just waited and watched. When the people came out, Daddy Rabbit stood to his feet too see Bunny Boy but the people rolled a big huge boulder in front of the cave and then they walked away. The cave entrance was blocked with Bunny Boy locked inside.

Daddy Rabbit jumped to the cave and reached his little nose as high as he could reach all around the big boulder. He jumped all around the front of the cave and the back of the cave, but he couldn’t find a way inside. Two men came and stood by the cave, but they didn’t move the boulder.

Daddy Rabbit lay down under the bush and watched the cave for a very long time. He didn’t move and he didn’t eat anything. His heart was inside the cave with his Baby Bunny Boy.

Daddy Rabbit lay under the bush and he grew more and more still while his heart beat more and more slowly as the sun set and then rose again. After a very, very long dark time, the sun started to rise and two new men came to the cave. They rolled the boulder away from the cave and a bright light shone from inside the cave that was brighter than the rising sun.

Baby Bunny Boy hopped slowly out and Daddy Rabbit jumped to meet him. He knew God was so happy that he had his Baby Bunny back again. Do you know how he knew God was happy? Because Daddy Rabbit could hear the angels singing praises to God louder than he ever heard them sing before!
