Behind the Prayer

Jennifer had an problem and then found an interesting solution.

It began when she decided she wanted to learn more about the Bible and despite regularly reading Scripture and attending church there was still something missing. She just wanted to know more. Then she became excited when she learned she could take a course at a local Bible college. However, there was a cost and it was just money she didn’t have at the moment.  

“So I prayed about it,” Jennifer told her friend Angela. “I asked the Lord for the money for the course but it didn’t happen so I figured the Lord hadn’t heard me. Then one day when I was listening to the music on the Christian radio station I realized that besides the music they had several great Bible teaching programs.  So I started listening and I’ve learned a lot.”

As Angela nodded, Jennifer continued. “And you know what’s amazing? My pastor had a sermon last week where he said that when we ask God for something we usually have a need behind it -like I wanted to know more about the Bible. So I asked for the money to take that course but didn’t get it. But then I realized how I could learn more about the Bible from the teachers on the radio – and that was what I really wanted. In sort of a roundabout way, God had actually answered my prayer! The pastor said that it really depends on God’s plan for us – God arranges His will to get us what we really need – not just what we want.”

Indeed, as we continue our spiritual journey we are constantly discovering the ways in which God cares and provides for us. After all, since He is guided by His faultless knowledge of us and our circumstances when we fail to gain a long held desire then He has a something far better in mind for us. And as always, for His glory and our benefit.
