Let's take a closer look at the gifts presented to baby Jesus. First, we have gold, which represents both material wealth and spiritual wealth. Not only did gold represent wealth, but it was often used in the construction of many things in the Bible, i.e., the Ark of the Covenant, the golden calf, and the statue of Nebuchadnezzar, to name a few. Next up is frankincense, an aromatic resin used for medicinal purposes and to impart a pleasant smell. Lastly, we have myrrh; like with frankincense, it was a dual-purpose resin. Myrrh was also used for embalming (fun fact: myrrh was actually worth more than gold).

Although all those items were valuable, we wouldn't expect a newborn to receive them today. Even though the gifts were presented to baby Jesus, who do you think the benefit of receiving those gifts was for? Of course, Mary and Jesus, because what would a newborn baby do with a piece of gold or some resin? Not one thing! They needed a way to care for and provide for the child as a baby and as he grew older, as both came from very humble backgrounds.

Let me ask you a question. If the Lord will go to such great depths to provide for His only begotten son in human form, why wouldn't He do the same for us? After all, aren't we His children too? Does He not love us as well? We are indeed His children, and He does love us dearly and tenderly. Although God always provides for us, we may not initially recognize it because of the uncommonness of the blessing, i.e., gold, frankincense, and myrrh (all gifts fit for a king).

He takes care of those who trust Him (believe me, Mary and Joseph definitely had to trust God individually and collectively)-Nahum 1:7 ERV
