They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” John 8:33 NIV
Did those speaking here forget about the slavery in Egypt? And what about the captivity in Babylon? Or, maybe they were only speaking about their current generation. Being a descendant of Abraham has nothing to do with the lack of ever being a slave. We have all been slaves: slaves to sin. Has Jesus rescued you from enslavement to sin? Have you given your life over to His care? If so, you are no longer a slave.
