Guilt has been given a bad wrap by certain practitioners in our contemporary society, as if all of it was always unhealthy. Give it a break. Truth be told, there would be no personal growth or positive change in our lives without good guilt. Yes, there is bad guilt and such a thing as guilt tripping and guilt mongering. But there is also such a thing as good guilt. Good guilt is healthy regret for having missed it or messed up in some way or in many ways.
There is still time to turn around, but there will not always be time. There is coming a time when things will be set in their places. There is in the extreme, after all, such a thing as the Second Death. True, that is the worst case scenario. There is no coming back from that. There is no resurrection from the Second Death.
