When we bear much spiritual fruit that remains we prove ourselves to be the disciples of Christ our Savior. And that fruit begins and then culminates in love, which is the ultimate fruit and hallmark of His disciples. Meanwhile the world observes and sees a community of people actively and fervently loving one another. It is a very practical kind of love, not merely theoretical. It is a love that must do for others as it wants done for itself. The world takes careful notice of this, because deep down it knows that it has been searching and thirsting for this kind of love all along. This kind of love is characterized by gratitude, because it is always appropriate to give thanks and praise. Why? Because there is always something and someone for which and for whom to be thankful. This kind of gratitude is itself a key part of the aforementioned fruit. Where faith looks to the past, it turns into gratitude and appreciation. Where faith looks to the future, it turns into hope and and sense of holy expectancy.
