In the dark of the night a whimper was heard—
a child lay crying not saying a word.

Her captor nearby had fallen asleep.
She dared not to stir—she tried not to weep.

Her body was broken—her heart in distress.
Her clothes were tattered—her hair was a mess.

Her heart was shattered—grief captured her soul.
Fear had set in and had taken its toll.

Oppressed and abused, this poor little one
felt lost and alone, battered, and shunned.

No one to help her escape this dim place.
She silently cried—tears covered her face.

With no one to comfort her fears on this night,
she shivered with dread—oppression her plight. . .

“Rescue me, LORD, from evildoers; protect me from the violent . . . Hide me in the shadow of your wings. . .Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need; rescue me from those who pursue me, for they are too strong for me. . .Rise up, LORD, confront them, bring them down; with your sword rescue me from the wicked. By your hand save me from such people, LORD,” (Psalm 140:1, 17:8, 142:6, 17:13–14, NIV).

We gather in prayer for each wounded soul.
Please mend them, dear Lord—fear’s taken its toll.

Come rescue and gather the innocent ones
who’ve been made a slave, and evil’s been done.

Now is the time to stop this abuse.
Rescue those kidnapped—Lord, set them all loose.
