Stakes in The Ground

  We have a stake in this earth. In fact we have more than one. We are staked down to the ground like the tents that we are, tabernacles of flesh and blood, and bone; these mortal bodies. There are the constant needs tugging us downward to eat, to sleep, to rest, to bathe, to heal, to digest, to excrete, lest we ascend and become too much at home in heavenly courts and enswathed in spiritual fellowship with our Father and brothers, and sisters above. We are like helium balloons rising in exhilaration until rudely yanked back by these taut string reminders.

  Yet, at the same time, we are still grateful to have the privilege to be the physical vessels of God's Holy Spirit at all, and look forward eagerly to the resurrection bodies we will one day possess, bodies that will each exude its own unique fragrance the way flowers do. The difference is, though, that the  flowers we know eventually wilt and their fragrances fade, but not so with our resurrection bodies. If anything,  they will grow more and more beautiful and fragrant!
