A New Kind of Love

Jesus said, "A new kind of commandment I give unto you to love one another as I have loved you....." There had to be a new kind of commandment to love, because it was a new kind of love. It was the kind of love that would cause many to say, "Wow! Look how they love one another! I want to be part of that. That's what I've been looking and waiting for, without even realizing it!" Humankind is designed to recognize agape love when it sees it lived out in community. Deep down humanity and nature itself hungers for that manifestation. Then when people finally witness it up close, decisions must be made: will I forsake all else to join it and follow it to its consummation? It's ultimate and it's intimate, it's a new kind of love, and yet, it is as ancient as eternity past.
