Jesus here speaks not of material items, that which is of this earth, but speaks of blessings which come from God. It is not that a believer cannot be blessed with material items. It is more about what blessings sit at the heart of an individual. The blessings which bring peace and joy to the heart, are they of those of material value? Being wealthy in terms of materialism will not truly make one happy. All they will strive for is even more. What brings peace and joy is realizing that one has blessings from God which do not necessarily have a material value.
