He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person.” Mark 7:20-22 NIV

Evil comes from within and leads to evil action. One can determine to not allow evil things from outside to become a part of their life. But until the heart is changed, a losing battle is being fought. To change the heart, one must come to Christ, as of our own doing we are ful of sinfulness. Christ can and will change our heart if we surrender to Him. The Holy Spirit, dwelling within the believer convicts of evil and directs us toward its elimination.
